Five Things You Should Know about Commencement
Who can participate?
All undergrad and graduate students who received a degree in the summer and fall of 2013, or are expected to receive a degree in the spring, summer or fall of 2014.
Does my student need to apply for graduation?
It’s recommended that students earning a bachelor’s degree apply for graduation at least three semesters before they expect to graduate. The process is easy and involves an application, a major contract and graduation fee. Visit the Registrar’s site for more information »
When and where is this year’s ceremony?
This year’s ceremony will take place May 17 rain or shine in Redwood Bowl. For ceremony start times by college, visit the Commencement website. Parking is available in most campus lots but seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis so plan to arrive early!
Can I take photos during the ceremony?
Guests are welcome to take photos during Commencement, but just be sure not to stand in the aisles or block the view of others during the ceremony. Don’t forget to share your Commencement photos on Instagram by using the hashtag #HSUgrad!
GradImages is a commercial photographer that will also be on hand to snap two photos of each graduate as they cross the stage and shake hands with President Rollin Richmond. Proofs will be sent to each graduate and can be purchased by calling GradImages at 800.261.2576.
How can my student stay in touch with the university?
Did you know that all HSU students receive a free membership to the HSU Alumni Association after graduating? As a member your student will get special invites to alumni events and hear about all the updates on campus via the monthly alumni newsletter and biannual campus magazine. Members also receive discounts at the HSU bookstore, Student Rec Center and have access to the HSU Career Center.
