Sex, health, and consent
HSU’s CheckIT program just celebrated its fifth year of empowering students to challenge and disrupt potential moments of sexual violence.
This student-led program has received accolades from the White House, and recently was involved in developing the University’s first on-campus living community dedicated to violence prevention.
Learning about consent and how to prevent violence has long been a focus of HSU’s overall health and wellbeing efforts. There are a number of resources for students to prevent harm, stay safe, and learn to protect their health.
One great starting point for students is the Wellbeing Map, which guides students to the many options for care. Student Health and Wellbeing Services provides sexual and reproductive health education and care ranging from preventive care and contraceptive choices to LGTBQ health.
In addition, student Peer Health Educators provide workshops, presentations, and other experiences to help other students explore a series of health topics like sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, mental health and wellness, and physical wellness.
Here are some resources for student reproductive health and harm prevention:
Finding a new president
Students—along with staff, faculty, and community members—shared their voices during a recent forum on HSU’s search for a new president. The Presidential Search Committee, headed by California State University Chancellor Timothy P. White, took comment from dozens of people who shared concerns, hopes, and ideas for the future of the University. Visit the President Search website for more information about the hiring process and to watch the forum.
Give to the Student Success Scholarship Fund
Giving to scholarships provides you the opportunity to directly impact a student’s life.
As the cost of public education continues to rise, more than two-thirds of our students rely on at least some financial aid, but donors like you can help! Scholarships are vital to making a Humboldt State education accessible to all qualified students and provide ongoing support to returning students. In addition to easing a student’s financial burden, scholarships and awards are a great way for you to recognize a student’s commitment to academics and excellence in leadership.
