Considering Graduate School

Commencement is approaching. If your student is planning to graduate from Humboldt State this May, it’s a good time for them to think about their next step.

Graduate school lets students pursue more in-depth study, conduct rigorous research with experts, be more competitive in the workforce and earn a higher salary.

If your student is interested in pursuing a graduate degree at Humboldt State, they should visit the Graduate Programs overview, which shows which programs are available and a host of services and supports for students seeking additional schooling.

Students who are interested in pursuing a graduate degree at a different school should visit the Academic & Career Advising Center website, where they can find help choosing a school, applying, funding their education, and more.

Applying for Graduation

If your student is planning to graduate in Spring, they need to apply for graduation no later than Feb. 4, 2019. This initiates the degree evaluation process and allows them to order diplomas and more. Visit the Registrar’s Office website for more information and to apply.

A separate process is necessary to participate in the May 18 Commencement ceremony. Beginning in late January, students will receive an email inviting them to register for Commencement. Remind them to keep an eye out and register early if they’re planning to walk. The deadline to register for this Spring’s event is April 5th.

It’s also a good time to make plans if you’re going to visit HSU for Commencement -- local lodging options sell out early.
