Their Time to Shine

Main Newsletter Story

More than 1,700 graduates celebrated their big moment with family, friends, faculty, and staff on Saturday, May 13. See photos of the event in HSU's Flickr gallery or watch video of the Commencement ceremonies.

That Summer Feeling

With summer here, our students have earned a well-deserved break. But that doesn’t mean they can’t further their education before the fall semester starts in August. Here are some ways families can help them stay on track.

If they come home:
Keep in mind that students have had a taste of independence, setting their own schedules and priorities. We recommend having a conversation early on about expectations -- both yours and theirs -- for returning home for the summer.

Students looking for summer work might be encouraged to apply for internships or jobs related to their field of study -- this gives them an opportunity expand their education and gain an understanding of how they may apply it after graduating.

If they stay in Humboldt:
Students can directly further their education during the summer by taking summer classes. The deadline to sign up for the second session without additional fees is June 26. Enrolled undergraduates seeking a degree can save $500 if they take six or more units.

For more information, visit the Summer Session website.

The greater Humboldt community offers a lot of opportunities for fun over the summer. Check out Crabs baseball games, festivals, farmers markets, as well as gear rentals and outdoor adventures with the University’s Center Activities.

The Academic & Career Advising Center offers a variety of job and internship services, including online listings. The services are free for students. Some on-campus services remain open during the summer, which provide students who stick around opportunities for on-campus jobs.
