Hitting the Road and Laying Low on Spring Break
If they go:
Many students will embark on their own trips, but HSU offers some options to help them return home to the Bay Area and Southern California.
- Zimride is a carpooling service that lets students with cars offer rides to their classmates. It’s an opportunity for students to connect with a ride out of town, and for the drivers to cut down on the gas costs of getting home – or to any Spring Break destination. Visit zimride.com/humboldtstate.
- HSU’s popular new bus program, called Homeward Bound, charters about 50 students to the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas during Spring Break. Seats are limited. Visit the Homeward Bound website.
- Other options include commercial bus lines and flights to San Francisco and Portland. Travel to HSU.
If they stay:
Many students decide to stay in Humboldt for Spring Break.
For students who live on campus, HSU’s residence halls will stay open. Staff and student coordinators are always on campus and on call.
There will be limited dining options available during Spring Break, and students who are staying on campus are encouraged to visit Humboldt.edu/dining to find out more. Housing & Residence Life will also host events and activities.
Humboldt has a wealth of opportunities for students with some extra time – parks, beaches, farmers markets, movie theaters, restaurants, and more. Those interested in the outdoors can look up Center Activities, which rents recreation gear to students planning Spring Break adventures. Center Arts brings world-famous music, dance and theater to campus, and venues in town host a variety of entertainment.
Spring Break is also a great chance for students to look for some part-time work or develop career goals. The Academic & Career Advising Center provides a variety of resources, including up-to-date job and career listings. Undergrads can apply for school-year or summer jobs through the Springboard listing, and graduating seniors should take advantage of the career center’s post-college resources.
