November can be an ideal time for students to find part-time work. Many businesses are gearing up for the holiday season by adding more staff to night and weekend shifts when they see an increase in shopping.
Both local small business owners and major retailers like Target and those at the Bayshore Mall will likely be accepting applications.
As always, the Academic and Career Advising Center has resources available to help students navigate the part-time job market, and to get started on the path toward a rewarding career.
This month and next, the center is hosting several events geared toward student success:
- Nov. 8
Job Search for the Graduating Seniors at 4 p.m. in Library 114. Sign up
- Nov. 15
Using Social Media for Job Search at 4 p.m. in Library 121. Sign up
- Dec. 6
Great Resumes and Cover Letters at Noon in Library 114. Sign up
Flu Shots at Student Health Center
The Student Health Center is offering free walk-in flu shots on Wednesday, Nov. 2 and 16. Encourage your student to stop by and take this easy step to avoid falling ill. Missing class near the end of the semester can have a big impact on academic success.
Humboldt State is the Nation’s ‘Outdoorsy-est’
HSU’s busy and active students helped propel our University to the No. 1 spot in Outdoor Nation’s Campus Challenge, giving Humboldt the title “Outdoorsy-est” school in the nation. We beat out 86 other universities.
The Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge asked students, faculty, staff, and community members to get outside and log their activities on a mobile app. The idea was to make fresh air inclusive, to help the community understand that there’s an outdoors for everyone. Hiking, biking, kayaking, quick walks, stargazing, and even hammocking earned participants points, as well as the schools they chose to represent. HSU established an early lead and never looked back.
