Fall 2025 Commencement

As we get ready to celebrate Fall Commencement, the University is putting a few new safety measures in place to help the event run smoothly for everyone. Beginning this December, large campus events—including Commencement—will follow new clear bag guidelines and additional security measures. |
Key Details:
- Bags larger than 8.5” x 6” must be clear (transparent plastic, vinyl, or PVC). Small opaque wallets or clutches smaller than 8.5” x 6” are permitted.
- Opaque, oversized bags, such as backpacks, tote bags, large purses, camera bags, and similar items, will not be permitted inside the venue.
- Accommodations will be made for medically necessary items, diaper bags, and strollers. These items will be subject to inspection.
- Graduates will take part in a brief, no-touch visual search when entering the lineup area in the West Gym and will need to carry their gowns in with them, putting them on after they’ve completed the screening.
These steps are becoming standard at universities and venues across the country. They’re simple, but they go a long way in helping us create a safe, efficient, and positive environment for our graduates and their families. See the FAQs on the Commencement website for more information.
