A Clearer Path to Graduation
A new tool allows students to create a detailed four-year plan, helping them avoid roadblocks, and graduate on time—or even early. The tool also helps the University plan class schedules better. This comes as students are registering for classes for the Spring ‘18 semester and, for the first time, being asked to plan three semesters ahead using the DARS Degree Planner.
The tool allows students to drag and drop classes into a four-year plan. It identifies basic problems with a student’s plan as well. It flags a class if a student hasn’t taken the prerequisite, and will note if a department doesn’t typically offer a certain class during the semester a student chooses it. This allows students to move classes around until they have a plan that works.
Students can make many four year plans and adjust them constantly through their education. They can look at what could happen if they change a major, add summer abroad programs, and more.
“Those students that have jumped into planning have given us incredibly positive feedback,” says HSU Registrar Clint Rebik. One transfer student from a Southern California community college did her entire plan in her first weekend at HSU, Rebik says, and shared that she was happy to see a clear path to graduation.

As flu season approaches and the pressures of the semester increase, your student may not realize that there are many campus resources to help them stay healthy and well. HSU’s new online Interactive Wellbeing Map helps students easily find help on a variety of topics, from financial wellness to making friends.
The Interactive Wellbeing Map helps guide students toward healthy habits and campus support services, all while promoting a sense of belonging.
Modules on the Map focus on frequently identified health concerns, such as a sense of belonging, sexual health, friendships and romantic relationships, nutrition and food, trouble relaxing, financial wellness, and much more.
